ART THERAPY AND CLINICAL COUNSELLING

In my opinion, Art Therapy provides a chance for people to explore themselves in a way that is very different from traditional verbal therapy. It allows people to access things about themselves that they have never really been able to put into words. Art Therapy is not about creating something beautiful or pretty, nor is it about being "good at art", it is about experiencing the process of creating something that has meaning to you regardless of the end result.

I typically integrate the interpersonal process in psychotherapy: a relational approach (Edward Teyber) with CBT, DBT skills, coping strategies, and art therapy. I am happy to talk with you the entire session, and/or to move into a creative way of processing if it feels like a good fit. Research tells us that the keys to therapy are both your motivation to make change and our ability to form an authentic connected relationship. Beyond that, I like to focus on what you want to get out of therapy, and the ability and experience I have to help and support you to achieve those therapy goals.
